Hi there! I’m Brian, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Addiction Professional, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional with a passion for helping individuals break free from self-defeating patterns and build meaningful, fulfilling lives. My career has spanned multiple service roles, including law enforcement, child protective investigations, and clinical mental health counseling, giving me a unique ability to support clients from all walks of life with a unique and compassionate perspective.
Specialties & Approach
I specialize in trauma-informed therapy, substance use treatment, and working with first responders—a population I deeply understand from both personal and professional experience. Many individuals in high-stress careers struggle in silence, hesitant to seek support. My goal is to create a space where they feel safe, understood, and free from judgment while navigating the challenges of burnout, PTSD, addiction, or moral injury.
My therapeutic approach is rooted in Person-Centered Therapy and Socratic Dialogue, with interventions drawn from: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Couples and family sessions often draw from Gottman’s framework, Imago or psychodynamic therapy, and Adlerian Psychotherapy.
I believe in meeting clients where they are, tailoring treatment to their needs, and providing honest, direct conversations that feel authentic yet supportive. Clients appreciate that therapy with me doesn’t feel cold or clinical—I balance real talk with deep empathy, helping them feel both challenged and empowered in their growth.
Background & Education
My professional path has always centered around helping others in times of crisis. After more than a decade in law enforcement—serving in patrol, investigations, and field supervision—I transitioned into mental health counseling to provide deeper, more lasting support to individuals and families in need. I earned a Master’s Degree in Addiction Counseling: Integrated Recovery for Co-Occurring Disorders from the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies, where I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and received the Chief Academic Officer’s Award of Excellence. I integrate my lived experience into my counseling work, helping clients navigate their own journeys with understanding, non judgment, and a focus on meaningful change.
Beyond the Therapy Room Outside of work, I enjoy playing music, gardening, exercising, hiking, traveling, reading, and spending time with my partner and our rescue pets. I also stay actively involved in peer-led recovery communities, recognizing the power of connection and lifelong personal growth.
If you’re ready to take the next step, I’d be honored to walk alongside you on your journey to healing and self-discovery.
