Hi there! My name is Brian Granneman. I have been incredibly fortunate to work with diverse populations in several different service roles for the past 20 years including law enforcement, child protective investigations, and now as a mental health counselor, certified addiction professional, and certified clinical trauma professional.
Have you been told or thought that therapy is for the “weak,” or that certain things should not be discussed? Facing complicated and often frightening emotions, addressing deep wounds, and being vulnerable are some of the bravest things you can do. I offer a safe space for addressing issues like depression, anxiety, bereavement, relational conflict, personal growth, abuse/sexual trauma, and complex trauma.
To escape distress, clients often turn to alcohol, drug use, overeating, impulsive purchasing, acting out sexually, or self-harm. Seeking temporary relief, these patterns can become self-defeating addictions that represent a complex interplay of mental, emotional, and spiritual challenges unique to each individual, shaped by their history and circumstances. Addressing only the symptoms treats merely the surface, overlooking the profound causes driving addictive behaviors.
I use an integrated approach to create a comprehensive and collaborative recovery plan that empowers you with the tools and insights to build a fulfilling, peaceful, and purpose-driven life. After starting my own recovery journey and career change, I earned a Master’s Degree in Addiction Counseling: Integrated Recovery for Co-Occurring Disorders from the premier Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies, achieving a 4.0 GPA and Chief Academic Officer’s Award of Excellence. As a Certified Addiction Professional, I provide counseling and treatment services to people suffering from substance use problems, drug and alcohol dependence – and underlying, or “co-occurring” mental health states.
My therapeutic approach is rooted in person-centered Socratic Dialogue, supplemented by Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Psychoeducation, EMDR, and psychodynamic couples therapy. In the therapy room, clients appreciate “real talk” that doesn’t feel cold and clinical. I am direct, but always with compassion. I have deep empathy for the struggles of others. I speak the language of the heart from my own lived experience with addiction, leveling of pride, clearing the wreckage from my past, developing self-awareness, and actively working on shortcomings. As a counselor, I am honored to accompany clients as a fellow traveler on their journey to a better life by providing empathetic, nonjudgmental, and evidence-based support.
